This vintage plaid Scotch Cellophane Tape dispenser was made by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M) and they applied for their design patent in 1939. This bright red and green plaid became their trademark and a brand that has been easily recognized for decades. Circa 1940's. Cellophane (scotch) tape has been a familiar term for any other cellophane tape. It just automatically is called "Scotch" tape, even if it's not manufactured by 3M.
This metal tape dispenser is in excellent vintage condition and still has some of the original cellophane tape in the dispenser. Great vintage piece to add to an antique collection or a "fun" decor piece for any office.
